Went to the Maker Faire today with serious trooper and 37-week-pregnant reeniecooks. We manned the table for a little while with Jason, Nick (Gerakines), and Krissy (I think I saw Jonathan ever so briefly too). We were a good team...I mentioned to someone, "Oh, and you should hear the LJ Radio stream of our voice posts!" and Jason had it playing on a laptop a few seconds later :-) Could there be a more incongruously perfect confluence of LiveJournal users than the Faire's fire-breathing-robot-adoring geeks and sew-darn-cute crafters? It's as if the organizers looked at LJ's userbase and thought, "Let's create a thing that appeals to all of them, minus the writers who are too anti-social to leave their homes." (I kid!) I remember first seeing a Bizarre Bazaar (the crafters' show within the show) flyer pinned on reeniecooks's board in her office at home and thinking, "Hmmm, I hope Marina doesn't try to make me tag along to this." But then for some odd rubbernecking reason, I checked the site out and realized what the whole thing and figured it was perfect. A few emails with the marketing folks later, and LJ and TypePad had a table there. The Sixaphone was perfect. I had a few more fun ideas for other demos. I hope we do more of these. Btw, is it me or could matthew be one of the Myth Busters' brothers? Tags: lj

Quick follow-up on this post... reeniecooks and I went to Delfina last night for her birthday. It was awesome. Thanks to lisa's find of this review, we knew to order the ribollita. Actually, we ordered it once (it's an antipasta), then ordered it *again* it was so good. The salt cod mantecato with fennel seed flatbread was also really, really good. We shared a bitter greens salad with amazing parmesan shaved over the top. I had the pork shoulder and Marina had the quail for our main courses. Then I had a cheese with black truffle and Marina had the profiteroles for dessert. Then they rolled us out of there on a forklift. Would go again, and again. P.S. The parking gods knew it was Marina's birthday -- space out front in the toughest parking neighborhood south of Russian Hill. Josh Charles, of Dead Poet's Society and Sports Night, was eating there too...I can recognize pretty random celebs! Tags: sf
