My Six Apart / LiveJournal work journal
Went to the Maker Faire today with serious trooper and 37-week-pregnant reeniecooks.

We manned the table for a little while with Jason, Nick (Gerakines), and Krissy (I think I saw Jonathan ever so briefly too). We were a good team...I mentioned to someone, "Oh, and you should hear the LJ Radio stream of our voice posts!" and Jason had it playing on a laptop a few seconds later :-)

Could there be a more incongruously perfect confluence of LiveJournal users than the Faire's fire-breathing-robot-adoring geeks and sew-darn-cute crafters? It's as if the organizers looked at LJ's userbase and thought, "Let's create a thing that appeals to all of them, minus the writers who are too anti-social to leave their homes." (I kid!) I remember first seeing a Bizarre Bazaar (the crafters' show within the show) flyer pinned on reeniecooks's board in her office at home and thinking, "Hmmm, I hope Marina doesn't try to make me tag along to this." But then for some odd rubbernecking reason, I checked the site out and realized what the whole thing and figured it was perfect. A few emails with the marketing folks later, and LJ and TypePad had a table there. The Sixaphone was perfect. I had a few more fun ideas for other demos. I hope we do more of these.

Btw, is it me or could matthew be one of the Myth Busters' brothers?

Best site I've found lately, especially nice with a 400-mile this evening.

Quick follow-up on this post...

reeniecooks and I went to Delfina last night for her birthday.

It was awesome. Thanks to lisa's find of this review, we knew to order the ribollita. Actually, we ordered it once (it's an antipasta), then ordered it *again* it was so good. The salt cod mantecato with fennel seed flatbread was also really, really good. We shared a bitter greens salad with amazing parmesan shaved over the top. I had the pork shoulder and Marina had the quail for our main courses. Then I had a cheese with black truffle and Marina had the profiteroles for dessert. Then they rolled us out of there on a forklift.

Would go again, and again.

P.S. The parking gods knew it was Marina's birthday -- space out front in the toughest parking neighborhood south of Russian Hill. Josh Charles, of Dead Poet's Society and Sports Night, was eating there too...I can recognize pretty random celebs!

For lisa's benefit, since she owes henry big time...ask her why.

Starting close to her new 'hood (Mission Dolores, basically)...
Bar Tartine

Then some favorites further afield...
Chez Papa

reeniecooks is getting a Delfina dinner for her impending birthday!

Anyone out there been to the Concourse at the SF Design Center for a concert?

We're going to a show there tomorrow night and I'm wondering if there are any seats for this pregnant woman that I know.

Update: Sucky venue. Belle & Sebastian could play inside a shipping container and still sound great, and I'd still pay to be there, but still...it doesn't feel good to pay $30/ticket for a concert inside an oversized shipping container, where I can't sit down.

I just discovered Burritophile. This is the kind of thing that makes me feel good to be in the business that I'm in. I don't know or care what they're using for the site/blog. I'm just glad it's there.

The West Coast response to SNL's "Chronic of Narnia" rap...funny stuff, especially for us SoCal kids.

(Featuring actor Mark Feuerstein and my Zeal.com colleague Adam Stein...nice work Adam!)
